Biomechanics, Inertial Measurement

Biosense Medical attend official opening of Perform Southampton

I was lucky enough to be invited to the grand opening of the Perform Southampton sports rehab and human performance centre (part of Spire Healthcare) last week to assist in demonstrating the Tekscan pressure measurement technology.
Long term Tekscan customers Simon Collins and Mel South are heading up the Gait Lab at the Perform Centre bringing together their expertise in Physiotherapy and Podiatry to look at lower limb biomechanics. The clinic currently uses MatScan floor-mat pressure technology from Tekscan and wanted to learn how Wireless In-shoe technology could help extend the service they are able to provide.

Whilst there I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to have a go on their anti-gravity treadmill from Alter-G and to our knowledge this was also the first time the system had been tested in conjunction with in-shoe pressure measurement technology. The results below show clearly the reduction in pressure under-foot as I am lifted to 50% and then 20% of my total bodyweight. All a bit of fun really but interesting results at the same time.
